Issue 08 Updated 13 August 2026 Australia

Six mobile games,
read before you install.

ChampBrief is a small editorial desk. Every issue we install six Android games, play each one properly, and write down what the first hour is actually like — the genre, the developer, the Google Play rating on the day we checked, and the part the store listing leaves out.

The index

This issue at a glance

The whole issue on one screen. Ratings are the Google Play figures recorded on 13 August 2026; they move over time, so treat them as a snapshot rather than a fixed grade.

  1. 01 Ultimate Pro Basketball GM Sports management 4.2 Menus, rosters and season tables — you manage, you never dribble.
  2. 02 Coffee Pack Sorting puzzle 3.9 One-minute rounds of tidying a takeaway counter. The lightest thing here.
  3. 03 Airport Idle Idle tycoon 4.3 Open desks, widen belts, watch the queues shorten while you are away.
  4. 04 Downhill Skate Race Arcade racing 4.4 Long alpine and coastal descents on one thumb, with very good scenery.
  5. 05 My Fishing World Fishing simulation 4.3 Slow, map-driven and patient — the calmest session on the list.
  6. 06 Infinite Flight Simulator Flight simulation 4.1 The serious one: real flight model, live traffic control, a steep learning curve.

Six titles, installed and played

Each entry carries its own screenshots from the Google Play listing, the developer name as published, and a note written after the game was on a handset for at least an hour. Every listing was checked on Google Play on the date shown.

Ultimate Pro Basketball GM — live match summary with quarter, clock and score

Ultimate Pro Basketball GM

Games2rk

4.2 from 6.3K ratings

You never touch the ball. The game hands you a professional club and a set of menus: draft and trade players, read attribute panels down to ball control, rebounds and defence, hire staff, set the rotation, then follow the season quarter by quarter on a scoreboard view. It is closer to a spreadsheet than an arcade, and that is the appeal — a full season fits into short sittings on the train.

Coffee Pack

VOODOO

3.9 from 17.2K ratings

A tidy sorting puzzle set behind a takeaway counter. Drag trays of cups onto the matching shelf, group them by colour and clear the bench before it fills. Early boards are gentle, later ones leave exactly one empty slot and dare you to think two moves ahead. A round lasts about a minute, which makes it the one you actually open while the kettle boils.

  • Coffee Pack — crates and shelves filling up on a busier board
  • Coffee Pack — colour-matched cups grouped on the counter

Airport Idle

Sekgames

4.3 from 38K ratings

An idle management sim that lives entirely inside a terminal. You open check-in desks, extend baggage belts, staff passport control and widen the walkways, and the little passengers respond straight away — a bottleneck at security is visible before any number tells you about it. Progress keeps ticking while the app is shut, so sessions are meant to be short and frequent.

  • Airport Idle — passport control desks with staff and travellers
  • Airport Idle — early terminal layout with a single boarding gate

Downhill Skate Race

Freeplay Inc

4.4 from 58.5K ratings

Third-person downhill skating along mountain passes and cliff roads. Steering takes one thumb; the actual skill is reading traffic early and holding a clean line through a two-minute descent. Boards and characters unlock as you finish runs. The scenery carries a lot of it — alpine forest, sea on one side, a road that keeps dropping away.

  • Downhill Skate Race — forest pass with traffic ahead of the skater
  • Downhill Skate Race — skater balancing on a mountain descent

My Fishing World — rod cast from a shore in a tropical location

My Fishing World

TabOneTR

4.3 from 92.1K ratings

A slow, deliberate fishing sim. You choose a spot from a world map that lists the level required, the weather, how densely the water is stocked and how clean it is, then cast, watch the line tension and bring the fish in without snapping it. Tackle is picked per species. Nothing here is in a hurry, and that is plainly the point.

Infinite Flight Simulator — airliner in cruise above the clouds

06

4.1Google Play

Infinite Flight Simulator app icon

Infinite Flight Simulator

Infinite Flight Corporation

4.1 from 152K ratings

The most demanding entry on the list, and the least forgiving. It puts a proper flight model, a global scenery map and detailed 3D airports on a phone, with live servers where other players fly the same airspace and volunteers work air traffic control. It does not hand you everything at once — the opening fleet and the region you start in are limited, and the store listing says as much up front.

  • Infinite Flight Simulator — detailed 3D airport with terminal and control tower
  • Infinite Flight Simulator — multiplayer flight on approach to an airport

About the desk

A short brief instead of a long review

ChampBrief started because the games section of Google Play is enormous and almost impossible to read. Store copy is written to convert, screenshots are chosen to flatter, and the rating alone tells you very little about whether a game holds up after twenty minutes. We do the reading part so that installing is a decision rather than a guess.

The method is deliberately dull. A shortlist is drawn up from new and quietly popular titles, each one is installed on a mid-range Android handset, and each one is played long enough to see the second act — the point where a puzzle game shows its real difficulty or an idle game shows how it paces you. Whatever we notice goes into the note, including the parts that are less flattering.

We keep the entries short on purpose. Six titles, one screen of index, a paragraph each. If a game needs more than that, it usually needs a proper review somewhere else.

  • Chosen for variety: no two entries in an issue share a genre.
  • Australian desk, written in Australian English, published for readers here.
  • Nothing is listed that we have not installed ourselves.

Editorial model

How this site works, in plain terms

ChampBrief is a small editorial desk, not a store and not a fan site. Each issue is planned around six Google Play titles picked so that no two share a genre, and every one of them is installed on an Android handset and played before a word is written about it. The same desk draws up the shortlist, runs the games and writes the notes, and a new issue appears roughly once a month.

Ratings and rating counts are copied from the Google Play listing on the date printed on the page; everything else in an entry is our own opinion after time with the game. Some links to Google Play are advertising placements, and where an entry is one it is labelled as advertising on the card itself. A placement never changes a rating, a note or the order of the catalogue.

If any of that stops being true, the correct place to complain is the address in the footer. The complete advertising disclosure sits in the Terms of Use.

  • Installed, not skimmed

Every title is installed on an Android handset and played before a note is written. If we could not get it running, it does not go in the issue.

  • Ratings copied, not invented

The score and the rating count come from the Google Play listing on a stated date. We never round them up or average them with our own opinion.

  • Placements are labelled

Advertising placements are marked on the card and disclosed in the Terms. Nothing is presented as an editorial pick when it is a placement.

  • Corrections in writing

Spot something out of date and tell us. The entry is fixed, the date on it changes, and the correction is listed in the next issue.
