Cookie Notice
This notice explains the small files and browser storage that ChampBrief uses, what each one is for, how long it lasts and how to switch it off. It sits alongside the Privacy Notice.
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file that a site asks your browser to keep, so that something can be remembered between page loads. Related technologies do much the same job: local storage keeps a value in the browser until it is cleared, and a service worker is a small script the browser keeps in the background so that a notification can arrive when the site is closed. Throughout this notice, "cookie" covers all three.

OneSignal and push notifications
Browser notifications and the issue email are handled for us by OneSignal. When you allow notifications, OneSignal registers a service worker file at the root of this site and creates a subscription identifier for that browser, together with technical details such as browser type, operating system, language and approximate location derived from your IP address. Nothing is sent until you have accepted the browser's own permission prompt, which is separate from the cookie banner and can be revoked at any time in your browser's site settings. How the banner works
The banner appears on your first visit with two buttons. Accept allows the optional analytics and advertising categories. Decline leaves only the necessary category active, and the site works normally. Either way the choice itself is stored locally so the banner stops appearing. Clearing your browser storage resets the choice and the banner returns, letting you change your mind.
Turning cookies off in your browser
- Chrome: Settings, then Privacy and security, then Third-party cookies and Site settings.
- Safari: Settings, then Privacy, where you can block cookies and manage website data; on iOS the same options sit under Settings, Apps, Safari.
- Firefox: Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Cookies and Site Data.
- Edge: Settings, then Cookies and site permissions.
- Notifications: in any of the above, open the site permissions for champbrief.com and set Notifications to Block to stop push messages immediately.
Blocking every cookie is your right, and this site is readable with all optional categories switched off. The only thing that stops working is the memory of your banner choice, so the banner may reappear on each visit.
