Privacy Notice
This notice explains what ChampBrief collects when you read the site or subscribe to the issue, why we collect it, who else sees it, and how to have it corrected or deleted. It is written to meet the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
Who is responsible for your information
ChampBrief is an independent editorial desk publishing a digest of mobile games at champbrief.com from Australia. We decide what personal information is collected through this site and how it is handled, which makes us the entity accountable for it under the Australian Privacy Principles.

What we collect
- Server and log data. Your IP address, browser user-agent string, the page requested, the referring address, and the date and time of the request. Our hosting provider records this automatically for every visitor.
- Cookies and similar storage. A small record of your cookie choice is kept in your browser's local storage. Optional measurement and advertising cookies are only set if you accept them on the banner. The categories and lifetimes are set out in the Cookie Notice.
- Subscription form data. Your email address, the name you type if you choose to give one, and a record that you ticked the consent box, with the date and time.
- Push notification identifiers. If you allow browser notifications, our push provider creates a subscription identifier for that browser and stores technical details such as browser type, operating system, approximate location derived from IP, language and permission state.
- Advertising signals. Where advertising placements are served and you have accepted advertising cookies, the network may set its own identifiers. Those identifiers belong to the network, not to us.
We do not ask for a telephone number, a postal address or a date of birth, and there is no field on this site to give them to us. We do not collect sensitive information as that term is defined in the Privacy Act.
Why we collect it, and on what basis

We never use your email address to profile you, and we do not sell, rent or trade personal information to anyone.
How long we keep it
- Server logs: up to 12 months, then deleted or aggregated so that individuals cannot be identified.
- Subscription details: until you unsubscribe, and then up to 90 days while the record is removed from our provider's systems.
- Consent records: up to 3 years after a subscription ends, so that we can answer a question about how consent was given.
- Optional cookies: for the lifetimes listed in the Cookie Notice, or until you clear them.
Who else handles your information
We keep the list of recipients as short as we can. At present it is:
- Our hosting and content delivery provider, which stores the site files and records the server logs described above.
- OneSignal, which acts for us as the processor for browser push notifications and for the issue email. It receives your email address, the name you gave, the tags attached to your subscription and your push identifier. OneSignal is based in the United States, so your information may be stored and processed overseas; we rely on that provider's contractual commitments to protect it, as contemplated by Australian Privacy Principle 8.
- Advertising networks, where you have accepted advertising cookies. They handle their own identifiers under their own privacy policies.
We may also disclose information where a law, a court or a regulator requires it, or where it is necessary to protect the site against misuse.
Links to Google Play open a service run by Google LLC. Once you leave champbrief.com, Google's own privacy terms apply to what happens there. We receive no personal information back from those visits.
Your rights and how to use them
Under the Privacy Act 1988 you may ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you and give you access to it (Australian Privacy Principle 12);
- correct anything inaccurate, out of date or incomplete (Australian Privacy Principle 13);
- delete your subscription details, which we will do without asking for a reason;
- revoke a consent at any time — by using the unsubscribe link in any issue, by turning off notification permission for this site in your browser, or by writing to us.
Send requests to notes@champbrief.com. We aim to reply within 30 days. If a request is unusually broad or unclear, we will come back to you to narrow it down before we start.
Complaints
If you believe we have mishandled your personal information, tell us first at notes@champbrief.com and describe what went wrong. We will investigate and respond in writing within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), the national privacy regulator, through its website at oaic.gov.au, by post to GPO Box 5288, Sydney NSW 2001, or by telephone on 1300 363 992.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Subscription details sit with our push and email provider under that provider's security controls, and access on our side is limited to the people who prepare the issue. No system is perfect, so if we become aware of unauthorised access likely to cause serious harm we will notify affected subscribers and the OAIC as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.
Children
ChampBrief is written for an adult general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 15. If you believe a child has subscribed, write to us and we will remove the record.
Changes to this notice
If this notice changes, the new version appears on this page with a new date at the top. Where a change materially affects how we use your information, subscribers are told in the next issue before it takes effect.
